How to Repair a Leaky Faucet

A leaky faucet can make your household life hell. So, how to repair that leaky bathtub faucet or a leaky shower faucet? We have the answer for you! You no longer have to pay the plumber to fix your leaky faucet. We will show you exactly how to repair that annoying leaky faucet whether it be a leaky shower faucet, a leaky bathtub faucet, leaky sink faucet or other kinds of leaky faucets. For the purpose of this leaky faucet repair illustration, let's assume we are trying to fix a leaky sink faucet.

What you need to repair a leaky faucet:
  • a screwdriver
  • an adjustable wrench
  • pliers
  • a clean rag
  • some household oil such as WD-40

And, this is how leaky faucet repair is done... 

Bear in mind that you will be taking the leaky faucet apart so memorize what go where so that you can put the good faucet back together after you are done repairing the leaky faucet.

  1. Turn off the water from under the sink. You can do this by twisting the little knobs leading up to the leaky faucet or you can just turn off the main water supply to your entire house.

  2. Turn on the leaky faucet and let the remaining water run out.

  3. Plug up the drain. If you don't have a drain plug, you can use a cloth. Make sure what you use is not small enough to go down the drain.

  4. Remove the leaky faucet handle. Do not use force. To remove the faucet handle, look for a screw. Use a drop of oil if the faucet handle is difficult to remove. Make sure you don't lose any pieces such as the washer.

  5. Unscrew the obvious nut and remove. Use the wrench with the rag to help you.

  6. Remove the assembly below. Some faucet allows you to just lift it out, others require unscrewing in the ON direction. ~~ Once this is unscrewed, you will see the ailing washer that is the cause of your leaky faucet.~~~

  7. Remove the screw that holds that washer. Use pliers if needed. You want to replace this washer.

  8. Get a washer that is exactly the same type and size and another screw.

  9. Put everything back together.

Now you know how to repair a leaky faucet! No longer would you have to pay your plumber to repair your leaky faucet.
