How to Plan a Move

At some point in your life, you will need to move. Very few people go through their life without moving even once. It is useful to know how to move or how to plan a move so that your move would be as painless as possible. The longer you have stayed somewhere, the more stuff you have accumulated and the harder it is to move. Below are packing tips as well as suggestions of how to plan a move.

When you are moving, planning is everything. That is if you still want to see your stuff in the next home your are moving into.

First of all, you want to move the least amount of things possible, so throw anything you don't want away before you move. Too many people move rubbish with them just because they did not know how to plan a move properly. When packing, you will come across things that you never even knew you had. The chances are you won't need them, so throw them away or donate them to charities.

Packing tips

If you are hiring a moving company to help you move, make sure you keep an inventory of what you have with you. All important documents should not be left to the movers. Too many moving companies lose boxes during the moves and the insurance money you will get for your loss will no where near cover what you actually lost.

When packing heavy stuff such as books, spread them out in small boxes. If you are moving yourself, you will hurt your back lifting heavy boxes. If you hire a moving company, they might mishandle your heavy boxes and either break the goods in them or break the boxes.

Plan what you want to pack in what box before packing them. For example, don't pack your clothes with kitchenware. You should pack kitchen items separately because you want to keep them as clean as possible so you don't have to re-wash all of them at your new home. The same goes with laundry.

Cleaning tips

To plan a move is also to plan how you want to leave your existing home or apartment. If you are selling your home, then you need it to be spotless to attract buyers. If you are moving out of an apartment, you will want all your deposit back so deep clean your place before you move out. Hire professional cleaners if necessary.

Getting familiar with the new location

When you plan a move, also plan to take care of all basic services such as telephone, utilities, electricity, water and thrash service. You would also want to get to know the new area you are moving in as much as possible such as where the nearest groceries are and where the post offices are. If you have children, you will need to know about the new school they will be going to. It is also good to know the routes you will need to take to work each day. With the many maps online these days, it is easy to find out and plan your move in advance.
